महिला सेल प्रभारी अरुणा रॉय ने आगे बताया महिलाओं में माहवारी एक प्राकृतिक प्रक्रिया है जिसको भारतीय समाज में जिसको अच्छे नज़रिए से नहीं देखा जाता था, इस बारे में बात करते समय महिलाएं असहज महसूस करती है।
आज भी माहवारी के समय महिलाएं गन्दे कपड़े आदि इस्तेमाल करती हैं जिससे विभिन्न रोग होने की संभावना बनी रहती है। एक समय ऐसा भी था जब महिलाओं को माहवारी के दौरान घर या रसोई में जाने नहीं दिया जाता था सभी उनको ऐसी हीन दृष्टि से देखते थे जैसे उन्होंने कोई अपराध किया हो। इन सबका कारण गरीबी और अशिक्षा थी। परंतु आज समाज में जागरूकता पैदा करके काफी बदलाव देखने को मिलता है।
देश में जागरूकता लाने के लिए अक्षय कुमार की एक फिल्म पैडमेन के नाम से सन् 2018 में प्रर्दशित हुई थी जिसका अनुकूल प्रभाव समाज की अशिक्षित वर्ग पर पड़ा था।
